The Picture Hunter Version 1.4 - By The Red Devil
Price:£2.75
Supplier:Floppyshop.
Picture Hunter as its so called hunts your memory for a picture.
Simple. Yes it is. All you do is load up your fave demo or
program (not games mind - cos its illegal) and snap the screen.
Well, booting up the disk, I got a few animated heads with the
Atari User Group Logo.
Then I was returned to the desktop. You have to copy the picture
hunter folder on to a seperate disk.
Boot this up, you get a menu it looks a bit like this:
1] Load from Boot
2] Load from Auto
3] Go to Desktop
4] Test bootsector
5] Install bootsector
First of all, install a Picture Hunter bootsector on your disk,
this then displays 'Picture Hunter not installed' when you boot
up.
Now lets rip some pictures and grafix.
Enter your demo, I have entered 'ST Connexions sound demo', now
press 2] this loads the program from the AUTO folder, if it
doesn't work Picture Hunter will return you to the main menu.
Now the demo is running, when you want to freeze the screen,
press the RESET button, yes the RESET button.
Now you will see loads of lines, coloured etc., using the cursor
keys, you can search through the memory. I find the best way is
to use the DOWN cursor and UP cursor keys first, soon from
whichever direction you are travelling through your ST(E)s
memory, you'll eventually come across some picture data, this
could be in the form of some fonts, grafix logos or the actual
snapped screen. Now lining it up can be a bit of a pain, so
fiddle around with the LEFT and RIGHT cursor keys now, until you
get the picture lined up.
Now you insert the picture hunter work disk in, and press SPACE,
you should get a message 'Do you want to save this...' press Y or
N depending on whatever you want to do.
Picture hunter saves pictures as 'PICTURE*.pi1' where the *
increases after each save, so if you have switched off, rename
these pictures cos it'll re-write over these names.
Picture Hunter saves as degas pi1 files.
I found it quite successful, but there are some demos and
programs that fiddle with the RESET VECTOR which PIC HUNTER
depends on.
